Manfreda can be planted but not deep. Plant just deep enough that the tip of the bulb peeks out of the soil.
Plant canna 5 to 6 inches below the soil line. Do not plant too close together, canna can get quite large.
Warm-season succulents can be planted now through late spring. If you are in Zone 8, make sure frost danger has passed.
Care:
This is about the latest you can cut back all the canna before it gets too hot. Cutting back to near the ground will remove all old/spent stalks and prevent insect infestation.
Cut flowers off once they are spent.
Weeds are abundant this month, remove continuously to reduce nutrient deficiency in soil and prevent weeds from seeding.
Check for signs of sunburn on newly planted agave. If the plant starts to fade or turn yellow that's the first sign they are starting to burn. A shade cloth can protect them until they harden off.
Prune prickly pear pads if the plant is starting to get too large. Cut at the joint. Pads can be planted right into the ground in another place and will grow just fine. After pruning, leave the pad to dry out a bit (a week or two will do), then put into well-draining soil and leave alone. DO NOT OVERWATER! You'll soon get a new plant!
Watering:
Keep an eye on bulbs. The weather can be all over the place this month so make sure the soil does not get too dried out or bulb development will slow or wilt. Water to a depth of about half a foot.
Begin to water succulents (warm-season growers) twice a month.
Fertilize:
Use slow release fertilizer on container plants this month
