Canary Island Date Palm - Phoenix canariensis

Size (HXW): 60Ft X 25Ft

Hardiness zones: 9 - 11

Sun requirement: Full sun

Water requirement: Drought tolerant once established. Water new plants regularly during the hotter months.

Plant description: The Canary Island date palm is an enormous, graceful, swaying palm tree with up to 50 fronds. The fronds can easily get to about 18 feet long! While it seems tempting to pick up small Canary Island date palms at your local nursery, be advised, this palm needs a ton of room to grow. Do not plant too close to a wall or foundation. The palm grows very slow but growth is sped up with regular watering. In the right location the Canary Island date palm can be a stunning showpiece.

Bloom period: Summer. Flowers are cream colored and not showy.

Planting and growing information: Plant when the soil is warm in full sun. Propagation from seeds is easy but watch out for root rot.
