Here is one way to make some great soil your desert plants and veggies will adore:
1. Loosen the soil 6 to 10 inches deep. Remove any large rocks.
2. Apply a couple of inches of compost. Worst case if you have no compost add a thin layer of used coffee grounds on top of the loosened soil. Rake well.
3. Water until the soil is moistened.
4. Layer a few inches of straw on top. This will provide insulation for both temperature and soil moisture.
5. Plant seeds or transplants within a small break/hole in the straw and enjoy your healthy new garden!
